WHAT'S THAT SMELL? The Hinton Pulp Mill is a vital industry to the economy of the town of Hinton. Odors are a by-product of any pulp industry when using TRS (total reduced sulphur) to soften wood products. These chemicals DO NOT cause health risks, but they stink- a lot at times. The smell can be sweetish, distinctive and persistent, and sometimes (rarely) a "rotten eggs smell" hangs in the air. Locals claim that they get used to the smell, yet visitors are more prone to it. The good news is, that the pulp mill continuously improves the procedure to better Hinton's overall air quality.
